Courtney Croteau
Grade 3/4 Split
Hi! I’m Courtney Croteau
I am the new Grade 1 teacher taking over for Mrs. Stoodley while she embarks on her maternity leave. I have taught all ages from preschool to Grade 9! I have a passion for literacy, numeracy, and experiential learning. I received my Bachelor of Education in 2018 from Mount Royal University, and spent my first two years teaching in England, where I developed a love for the younger grades. After moving back home during COVID, I became certified as an Early Childhood Educator and began teaching at an outdoor preschool. I took over as Director in 2021, and have been so grateful for my experiences so far. I am so excited to return to the classroom this year, and to be teaching one of my favorite grades. Outside of school I have a million and one hobbies. I have recently began learning the guitar and the harmonica, and enjoy boxing and rock climbing. On the weekends I am usually out hiking, or settling down at home doing arts and crafts like woodburning and graphic designing.
My teaching philosophy incorporates my experiences and interests, and is built on the value of connection. I want to build a safe and welcoming classroom that encourages children to connect – connect to themselves, to others, and to the world around them. I believe in place based and play based learning are key factors in building this connection. I am honored to be able to join the team at Wheatland Crossing and to get to know the students, parents and staff that make up this wonderful community.
