Jody Filkohazy
Hello! I am Jody Filkohazy.
Currently, I am an elementary teacher at Wheatland Crossing School. Engaging and guiding the elementary students is truly a passion of mine. Observing the students’ enthusiasm and the joy of mastering a skill is very fulfilling.
Growing up in Pincher Creek, Alberta and completing a degree in the sciences from the University of Calgary and an After Degree in Education from the University of Lethbridge, I was hired for my first teaching position in Golden Hills School Division in 1999. I have worked at Brentwood Elementary School, Hussar School and Wheatland Crossing. I have been a generalist teacher who has taught grade 1, grade 1/2 combo class, grade 3/4 combo class, grade 4, some other options with grade 5 and 6, as well as Junior HIgh Foods.
Currently, Strathmore is my home town. I lived in the community of Hussar previously. It is hard to believe that I have 3 sons who are quickly growing up. I enjoy watching them play sports, at the school or hockey at an arena.I am proud to see them excel in their interests both in sports and in the classroom. Curling is my winter sport that I enjoy but I also like to skate and go on winter hikes. Summer is spent with family and friends camping, hiking and enjoying the sun and water on the boat.
My philosophy in education is connection with the students and their family is the most important part of teaching. Without connection, students do not feel safe and willing to learn new things in a school environment. I make sure that I connect with each student every day and I work hard at communicating with parents and students. Promoting a sense of connection as a community is important to me. All students and parents strive for success in learning. As a teacher, I try to promote and support success in learning for every student in our school community.
I am honored to be a part of Wheatland Crossing School’s community, bringing my past experiences and beliefs into my teaching, and I look forward to connecting with you to enhance your child’s success in learning.
