Kathy Gerritsen

Grade 5

Phone: Voicemail Ext. 9016

Hi! I am Kathy Gerritsen.

I am half of the grade 5 teaching team, along with Taylor Durant. My areas of focus are math, science and art. I cannot imagine a better grade and school to be teaching in!

I have had a long, fulfilling career in teaching. Fresh out of university, I taught junior and senior high school in Brooks. After I took a few years off to start a family, I began teaching at the elementary level at Rockyford School. I moved to Wheatland Crossing School when the schools were amalgamated and have been there ever since.

I have lived on an acreage between Rockyford and Strathmore for the past 30 years. We raised our two children there. Our daughter is a teacher in Lethbridge, who also teaches grade 5. Our son is an electrical engineer with a career in Vancouver. My husband and I owned and operated Gerritsen Drilling for decades before selling it to our employees a couple of years ago. In my spare time, my passion is international travel. I have been to 6 continents and have Antarctica on my bucket list. I have also loved taking Wheatland Crossing high school students on international trips and look forward to many more!

I believe that student engagement is necessary to be an effective teacher. In my classroom, I work hard to create engaging and hands-on opportunities that will help my students expand their horizons. I love watching my students grow and succeed as learners in my classroom.

I am grateful to be a part of the Wheatland Crossing team with all of the wonderful staff, students, and families.
