With October upon us our Coyote Kitchen has been running for about 4 weeks now. We have continued to grow and work through the process of preparing and serving meals to over 275 students on a regular basis. Through the process we have made some small changes to our system and are confident that our students are getting food in a timely manner. While feeding 200 elementary students has proven to be a challenge with the differing palettes, appetites and eating habits, we are now working on expanding our menu to include new items. As you look at next month’s menu you will notice that Wednesday has items that some students may not have experienced before. With continued growth, we will look to expand our menu even further by seeking feedback from students and parents. It is our goal to continue to work towards creating a balance between providing a healthy menu that children will eat with meals that can be prepared and served in the time frame we have.
Here are a few updates
We have made a slight change to our eating schedule. Elementary students will still be eating during a new staggered lunch hour (K-3 11:40 and 4-6 12:05) however, our Kindergarten class now eats in their classroom. We have also moved our 3s to eat with the ones and twos. This allows us a better balance between numbers of students and serving time.
Friday September 29th was to be a chef special day. Unfortunately our chef is away and we are covering the kitchen with staff and a helper. We will be doing a coyote special hot dog and chips lunch in the place of Chef’s special and will look forward to Ms Yvonne coming back with us next week.
A reminder that students who don’t like a particular lunch menu item will need to pack their lunches as there will be no other choices on that day. Students will also still need snacks for morning and afternoon recess as our grant only covers lunch.
We would like to thank everyone for the continued support and positive feedback as we continue to develop our amazing lunch program.
